Excited that I have my first illustration in the New York Times Op-Ed page today. I turned this piece around in a little over 5 hours from start to finish. It was pretty intense and 100% fun. Here is a little breakdown of how that works.
I got an email from Matt Dorfman yesterday at about 12:30 asking if I wanted to work on a piece to be done by 5:30-6. That’s a good way to jump-start your Monday. I accepted and slammed down some cookies and milk for lunch and got running. After reading through the article a few times and getting Matt’s input I came up with these 5 roughs by about 2:00.

Matt picked #2 so I slammed a few more cookies and milk and got to drawing. Here are the pencils I sent at about 4:30.

He approved the pencils with a few requested changes. No time for more cookies so I started inking and busted this out by about 5:45. Here is the final image.

Here is how it looks on the page.

Thanks to the art director Matt Dorfman! Great guy to work with. If you want you can read the article here.
